Parties with a Purpose (Sign-Up Parties) FAQ’s

Are you ready to PARTY?? “Parties with a Purpose” will be running throughout the entire school year and summer. In 2020 (pre-covid), we made $21,000, in 2022 we are hoping to raise $20,000! Parties with a Purpose supports the expenses of the PTO such as staff support events, teacher appreciation, Principal support and so much more! Teacher-hosted parties earned $1,500 and they kept ALL that money for their classrooms! Let’s get back to having fun and making money! Below is a few frequently asked questions regarding these sign-up parties and how they work.

  1. What is a sign-up party?

It is an event you host for the school as a fundraiser. Parents sign up on Membership Toolkit and make a donation to the school in order to attend. The cost to participate varies based on the event and the target audience. 100% of the funds raised go to the school.

  1. If I host a party, do I have to pay for it?

Yes, however many people will co-host a party with a group of parents to have more fun, share labor, and offset costs. Many parties cost practically nothing to host.

  1. Is a party/event tax-deductible?

Yes, it is, up to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS and based on what you have contributed. For more advice, please consult a tax professional. Ask the fundraising co-chairs for a tax exempt letter.

  1. Am I paid anything to host the party?

No. Your efforts to organize and host the party are your volunteer donation to Barretts.

  1. Do the people coming to the party need to bring anything?

Usually everything is included. If there is something particular or special that you will not be supplying, we can put a “prerequisite” on the party. (ex: Murder Mystery requires a costume)

  1. How many people are invited and how much do I charge for my party?

The number of people depends on how big your space is/what you are going to do. We can help determine a price based on party prices from previous years.

  1. What if I want to throw a party but don’t have the space? What if I have the space but am not sure what to do?

If you have an idea for a party LET US KNOW! And if you have a large kitchen someone can cook in, or a big deck with an outdoor table, for a large entertainment room, LET US KNOW! We will be happy to match people up so they can work together! That is why we are here!

  1. When do I have the party?

You can host parties all year long, even the summer! They can be indoor events, outdoor events, at night, in the morning … You get the idea. You party sign-up will become active when you are ready.

  1. What kind of parties can I host?

Anything you, your friends, or you family likes to do! We are dividing the parties into three categories. 1) Adult Only Parties 2) Kid Only Parties 3) Family Parties
